Bewdley Station
The Railway Station, Bewdley, Worcestershire, DY12 1DU
Introduction
The Worcestershire Georgian town of Bewdley developed at a crossing point of the River Severn. Industrial development of nearby Ironbridge, the Black Country and the availability of coal at Highley and Alveley brought an increased need for transport. Both river and rail were important until mining in the area ceased. Bewdley suffered gradual de-industrialisation followed by expansion and gentrification.
The railway was closed in the 1960s, but services were restored by the Severn Valley Railway in 1974 with steam services to Bridgnorth. Today, Bewdley station is run by a team of volunteers preserving a bygone era on a former Great Western branch
line.

Updates
October 1st 2017 - September 2017 - On the Buses
Thanks to Phil Swallow, Sir Peter Hendy, the London Transport Museum and all the exhibitors. The London Transport theme included a LNWR charabanc in attendance dating from 1914 through to a 21st Century “Boris” bus.
Various other parts of the Country were represented too from a variety of eras.

Some more shots of the excellent work by Philip our resident stonemason / sculptor. Here we see he has renewed the lower plinth stones, replacing worn areas. Also, a shot of the refurbished outside lamp, which has been carefully restored by Station foreman Paul Whittingham.

The stonemason has moved from Arley to Bewdley for renewal of old stonework. New images added.
January 18th 2017
More progress. The workshop has been tidied in readiness for projects such as bench refurbishment. Chimneys in the waiting room and booking office were swept and the ladders annually tested. Platforms were swept of tinsel and cable tie remains!
Some shunting of the yard took place and also meetings, rules and PTS exams carried out.
Work continues in North signal box to prepare walls and ceiling for repaint. There is still much to do, but a good chance to carry out repairs ready for reopening on February 18th.
We still get occasional visitors plus our own staff from various departments continue to turn up to carry out maintenance - the car park was full on Saturday!

National Railway Heritage Awards - Congratulations also to all those involved in the Bewdley Canopy station project that was 'Highly Commended' by the judges.
