August 23rd 2018 - Royal Scot Returns!

Ex LMS railway 4-6-0 6P number 46100 ‘Royal Scot’ makes a welcome return to the Severn Valley Railway. The loco first came to the SVR in September 2015 for mileage accumulation and high speed testing prior to its mainline trials in December 2015, and since its preservation railtour debut on 6th February 2016 has been a popular locomotive on the national network.

We are delighted to welcome the loco back care of its owners ‘Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust’ and 46100 will headline our Autumn Steam Gala Event, with the Scot running on Friday 21st through to Sunday 23rd September alongside its former Bressingham Steam Museum resident No 6233 ‘Duchess of Sutherland’.

Second centenarian joins Autumn Steam Gala lineup...

We're excited to welcome Q6 No. 63395 to the Railway from September 21st - 24th, to star alongside fellow 100-year-old locomotive No. 2857.

The Q6 was an unglamorous freight workhorse that plied the tracks of the north east of England for 50 years. Remarkably, along with the class J27s, it was one of the very few pre-Grouping steam locomotives to survive right up to the end of steam on British Railways.

Capturing the imagination of countless enthusiasts in the final days of steam operation in County Durham and Northumberland, one of the last survivors, No. 63395, became the subject of a purchase appeal by the Newcastle based North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group, which had successfully acquired a J27, No. 65894, in December 1967.

No. 63395 will star alongside already confirmed attendee express-locomotive No. 6233 Duchess of Sutherland.

Look out for more announcements soon...

December 25th 2017 - The return of the 'Lady in Red'

Happy Christmas everybody! We thought we'd make your Festive Season that little bit more special with our first Autumn Steam Gala announcement...

No. 6233 Duchess of Sutherland is our first star attraction confirmed to attend our Gala from September 20th - 23rd, and will be appearing in stunning LMS Crimson Lake livery.

Paired with our beautiful rake of LMS carriages, the 'Duchess' will look right at home hauling an authentic train. Having last visited us in 2013, then in British Railways green, No. 6233's 2018 return will be a sight to behold.

The 'Duchess' is a real icon in the world of railway preservation after hauling the Royal Train as part of HRH The Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations in Wales in June 2002, and then again hauling the Royal Train in 2005 over the famous Settle-Carlisle line with HRH The Prince of Wales on board.

No. 6233 Duchess of Sutherland appears care of ‘The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust’.

More information will be available soon...
